Muharram 2024: Honor Imam Hussain's Spirit of Giving

Muharram And The Importance of Giving

As we enter the sacred month of Muharram, we are reminded of the importance of giving and helping those in need. If we truly remember and honour the legacy of IMAM HUSSAIN (RA) And the sacrifices made during the Battle of Karbala, it is our duty to extend a helping hand to our needy brothers and sisters who lack basic necessities like water and food.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Said

"The best charity is to provide water to drink." [Ibn Majah]

"Whoever relieves a believer’s distress from the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from the difficulties of the Hereafter." - [Muslim]

In the spirit of these teachings, let us use this blessed time to give generously and support those who are less fortunate. By donating, you can make a significant difference in their lives and earn immense rewards from Allah.

Increase Your Ibadah During Muharram

Fasting on the Day of Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, is highly recommended in Islam. This act of worship commemorates the events of Karbala and offers a chance for spiritual renewal. It is believed that fasting on Ashura expiates sins and brings immense rewards from Allah. Additionally, it is Sunnah to fast a day before or after Ashura (9th and 11th Muharram) as well.

A man once asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):
"Which fast is best after Ramadan?"
The Prophet (PBUH) replied,
"The month of Allah, known as Muharram."
May Allah bless you abundantly for your compassion and generosity.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It’s a holy month, especially for Shia Muslims, who remember the death of Husayn ibn Ali, the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, during this time.

Muharram is important because it marks the start of the Islamic New Year. The 10th day, called Ashura, is a special day when Muslims remember the sacrifice of Husayn ibn Ali.

Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. Shia Muslims mourn the death of Hazrat Hussain (RA), while Sunni Muslims may fast to honor this day.

Fasting during Muharram is not required but is recommended, especially on Ashura. The Prophet Muhammad fasted on this day and encouraged others to do so.

Non-Muslims can watch and learn about Muharram events, especially public ones. However, participating in specific religious rituals may be reserved for Muslims. It’s good to ask what’s appropriate if you attend.

The main mourning period is the first ten days of Muharram, ending on Ashura. Some Shia Muslims continue to mourn throughout the entire month and into the next month, Safar.
