In Pakistan, 95 million people live below the poverty line. Our country has the lowest per capita income in South Asia and the highest number of out-of-school children globally. The SKZ Foundation helps your Zakat reach these communities by providing them with food, clean water, education, and other basic necessities.

What is Zakat?

Zakat is a mandatory act of worship for every eligible Muslim whose wealth surpasses the Nisaab threshold and a lunar year has passed. Constituting 2.5% of the total Zakatable wealth, Zakat serves as a means to purify our wealth while aiding those in need.

Importance of Zakat

Being the third pillar of Islam, Zakat holds a lot of importance in Islam. Unlike general Sadaqah, Zakat is allocated to specific categories of individuals, as outlined in the Quran.

Allah tells us in the Quran:

“Indeed, [prescribed] charitable offerings are only [to be given] to the poor and the indigent, and to those who work on [administering] them, and to those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to [free] those in bondage, and to the debt-ridden, and for the cause of Allah, and to the wayfarer. [This is] an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.” [Surah Al-Tawbah, 60]
